Freelance Journalist and News Editor

British Overseas News is the working title of a weekly news brief produced for newspapers outside the United Kingdom by Vic Gardner. A free service, it is entirely non-governmental and independent.
‘Your reliable UK office’
- British Overseas News provides an informal and non-controversial weekly snapshot of British news.
- It does away with time-consuming news-gathering from UK sources and the need to assemble a representative selection of stories.
- Each item has a heading and can be edited to stand alone if necessary.
- It is a convenient service for media in all Commonwealth countries. Newspapers in British tourist destinations outside the Commonwealth are also able to take it.
- It is designed to enable readers to keep abreast of current affairs in the United Kingdom and is targeted primarily at countries with historic, tourist and business links with the UK.
- It assists in the production of news likely to be read by British expatriates, anglophiles generally, and those with business, family, leisure and travel connections with the UK.
CONTENT
The policy is to pick up the main news strands and monitor Buckingham Palace and Foreign Office press activity. Topics may include the following:
- Royal family
- Political activity
- Military activity
- National events
- General news (newspaper headlines, campaigns, main strands)
- Sport
- Business and financial
- Show business
- Travel
DELIVERY
The brief is sent to arrive on Monday each week as an email attachment using Microsoft Word, so it is easy to lift for editing and page layout.
